Prof. EL Hassan was an Emeritus Professor of Pathology, University of Khartoum. He was the Head Department of Pathology, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor University of Khartoum. He was the Founding Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Republic of Sudan.
He is the father of Leishmaniasis in Africa and was a compassionate scholar, inspirational leader, and generous mentor to young and aspiring researchers. He was more than just a mentor; he was a visionary clinician, an innovator, one of the kindest and most patient listeners and as well as being modest as he was an expert.
Though he held numerous prestigious positions, yet his devotion to science and patient care was extraordinary. His microscope was never far away and had an enduring place on his desk.
He will be remembered fondly for his life of dedication to teaching and research and his committed service to poor and marginalised people.
